About this Course
What do I mean by spirituality?
For me, spirituality is about dropping ever more deeply into my own life – right here, right now, just as it is – and thus opening to the larger Life that holds us all. It is about opening to the MORE that is always available to us, but that we often feel hopelessly disconnected from.
And so we will be orienting around spirituality not as something to escape into, but as a way of dropping down into your actual everyday life and struggles – right here, right now – more deeply.
Our primary tool will be Focusing
This is exactly what Focusing is about: opening ever more deeply to the MORE – not by transcending, or even overcoming, the everyday life each of us is living, with its experiences of stress, unworthiness, constriction and disconnection – but by pausing, and being with, the experience of our own life, just as it is.
As we find a new relationship to our own life, we discover a new relationship to the MORE, and to the Mystery at the heart of it.
"When you open your insides to people you need to have trust. I felt really supported – like a baby in arms – in this research of myself by this group and by Jocelyn."

Course & Class
Structure
Core Class Structure: Attunement
Each class begins with an attunement, allowing us to settle into our bodies, into the group, into the larger field.
Core Class Structure: Q&A
This is where the class becomes a creative cauldron as questions, ideas, insights bubble up through our interaction. And of course this permeates the class from beginning to end, not just during "official" Q&A's.
Weekly Partnership
Weekly peer partnership Focusing practice is the heart of this program. During Core Class weeks, your full partnership will occur outside of class times. During Partnership Clinic weeks, that practice happens during the class. (Of course, additional practice time with a fellow student or existing partner is always welcome!)
Core Class Structure: Check-in
Next, we have a check-in, which gives us a chance to take stock of what’s come up since the prior class – what worked, what didn’t, new questions, experiences and new insights to share…
Core Class Structure: Demo
There is always a demonstration of the new aspect of Focusing Partnership that we will be exploring in the current class.
Partnership Clinic Structure
Alternating with each Core Class is a Partnership Clinic. We will begin each Clinic with a check-in and a brief talk building on the prior week; proceed to our partnership practice; and have a full Q&A/sharing afterwards
Core Class Structure: Mini-lecture
This is where I introduce new material and/or perhaps an experiential exercise to help embody it.
Core Class Structure: Focusing Partnership
Our partnerships are based around the themes of the week. This is usually briefer than a full partnership session because of everything else happening in the class - this makes the partnership occurring outside of the class essential.
This is a 9-month Focusing partnership course
The nine months allows us the space and time needed to grow into a new way of relating to our own experiencing. There are three modules, each with 12 classes.
Days/time
We meet on Wednesdays, September 9, 2026 through June 16, 2027, from 10:00 am-12:30 pm New York Time. Click here to see detailed course calendar, including breaks. To see what the times are in your time zone, click here.
We alternate between Core Classes and Partnership Clinics
We will be alternating two types of classes - (1) more formally structured (but still highly experiential) Core Classes and (2) Partnership Clinics
"Jocelyn is the most loving and compassionate mirror anyone has held up to my distresses and low self-esteem places. I trust her completely as someone who has done her work to hold a container of safety for anyone who seeks to evolve richly."

How is this different
from other Focusing Courses?
Focusing has an inherent spiritual dimension because of its invitation into "the MORE." But this course places spiritual development at its center, including a simple framework of spiritual anatomy (the chakra centers and the central core).
General Program
Module 1 – Foundations of Felt Sensing: Opening up to the MORE
The foundation of Focusing is what we refer to as the Felt Sense, and this is the foundation of Focusing for Spiritual Development. The Felt Sensing realm is the realm of the MORE that is always available to us.
It is through our bodies, from the inside, that we experience the world.
When something happens that feels overwhelming to us and we don’t have the relational resources to deal with it, our body – our whole being – constricts.
Sometimes the way we behave in the world may indeed be a matter of misunderstanding, of having simply learned counter-productive habits of living.
But our deepest struggles arise because of these deep constrictions of our being, which can feel like a matter of survival. We end up being cut off not only from our bodies, but from our contact with the MORE that is otherwise available to us…
This is why simply understanding that we should love ourselves, that we should love others, that we should just let it go, that we’re all one, and so on, is not enough.
It is only through a deep, experiential path that we can allow these bodily constrictions, including our awareness, to relax and open up, allowing us a deeper, restorative contact with life.
In Module 1, we establish a firm foundation that includes:
-
A brief history of Focusing and the discovery of Felt Sensing
-
The neurological basis of Felt Sensing
-
Gendlin’s principle of “Interaction First” – This is why Felt Sensing works
-
The true nature of embodiment from a spiritual point of view (specifically, as viewed through the lens of Judith Blackstone’s Realization Process)
-
The physical body as the foundation of presence
-
Becoming aware of (or reviewing) some of the body’s basic spiritual anatomy and its relationship to settling deeply into the physical body
-
Learning to trust that the body has its own conscious intelligence, different from the intelligence of my friendly and curious Adult Observer Self
-
Learning the language of the body, which is not the language of the intellect
-
Learning to PAUSE and rest into the not-knowing
-
We learn to settle and ground into the layers of the Wholebody – because as crucial as the physical body is, it is just one layer of the living tapestry of our Wholebody.
Brief background of the
foundational sources for this course
Eugene Gendlin’s Focusing
I have been a Focusing trainer and guide since 2010, and the Focusing process is at the heart of this course. Eugene Gendlin discovered Focusing while researching the question of why some people change from therapy and others do not during the 1960s. More specifically, he discovered that a person’s ability to connect with their own bodily felt sense of their situation seemed to be the basis of change. Over the years, different streams of Focusing developed.
Relational Wholebody Focusing
This is the bedrock of this program. It’s overarching theme of healing through reconnecting with one’s own wholeness resonates beautifully with the theme of spiritual repair. This style of Focusing was developed by Karen Whalen.
Realization Process
The embodiment aspect of this spiritual path undergirds this course. The Realization Process was developed by Judith Blackstone over 30 years ago. Her sense of embodiment as an essential element of spiritual development is not only beautifully resonant with Focusing, but uniquely helpful in its precision.
Inner Relationship Focusing
Inner Relationship Focusing informs much of my work. Ann Weiser Cornell brought clarity to the Focusing process by recognizing that one needed to be self-in-presence if one were to fully access the felt sense, rather than unconsciously merged with a part of oneself. She founded Inner Relationship Focusing, together with colleague Barbara McGavin.
"[Jocelyn] has clearly made the Relational Wholebody Focusing process her own, using it in a masterful way to co-create a living, spacious and natural healing space with her clients that allows them to open up to the tender, vulnerable parts of themselves.I highly recommend Jocelyn as an RWBF trainer and guide."

What’s included
in the course?
-
9 months of small group classes.
There are 3 modules of 12 weekly classes each, with a break between the first and second modules. Classes have a maximum of 12 students. This provides plenty of time and space to develop new ways of being in the world.
-
3 individually guided sessions with Jocelyn.
I include one hour-long guided Focusing session with me during each module that you can use as you like. (In addition, class members have the option to purchase guided sessions at a 20% discount.)
-
A small (and therefore truly supportive) online community growing together.
Class members – including me – will be using the class discussion list to address questions, comments, insights, and so on. (Of course, you can email me anytime you have a private question you do not want to share with the other students.)
-
Recordings of Core Classes, Partnership Clinic Q&A's, and materials
Full access to each of the recorded classes, as well as to various accompanying materials, links to articles, etc.)
-
Weekly partnerships.
New partners are assigned at the beginning of each module. This provides sufficient time for partners to get to know each other over the course of the module while also ensuring that each partner gets a chance to experience a variety of Focusing styles. *Please note that these partnerships are core to your learning and are therefore not optional.
-
If relevant: Focusing Proficiency Award eligibility.
If you are not yet proficient in Focusing, you will be eligible to receive a Focusing Proficiency Award at my recommendation. (This includes a $35 processing fee, and a $25 annual membership fee to the International Focusing Institute in subsequent years to maintain it.) You will then not only have access to your fellow students as ongoing Focusing partners, but to the larger Focusing world if you like.

Cost of the course
Note: Originally, $1,200 was the early bird price. Of course, the purpose of an early bird price is to encourage early registration. However, the course did not meet the minimum number of participants (6) a couple days away from the deadline. So $1,200 is now simply the price of the course!
What does this course cost?
$1,200*
-
Reserve your place with a $400 deposit, then pay the remaining $800 by the Registration Deadline of Saturday, September 5. (Payment plans are also available)
A note on scholarships/discounts: I've priced this course to be as accessible as possible from the outset. That said, if cost is a barrier for you, let's talk about it during our free pre-registration chat.
You will receive:
-
Three full course modules, each with 12 recorded Zoom classes
-
A private forum for connecting with me and your fellow students (small group, capped at 12) between sessions
-
Weekly Focusing partnership practice with a peer
-
Supporting materials — articles, videos, and more
-
One individual hour-long guided Focusing session with me during each of the three module
What you will take away
from this course
-
You will understand the nature of the body as inherently spiritual
-
You will have the capacity to actually develop a spirituality profoundly and satisfyingly connected to your everyday self, rather than a spirituality of escape that focuses on the craving for spiritual highs
-
Know how to establish the foundational safety and inner stability needed for this work
-
You will have the capacity to return to direct contact with the wholeness of your situation through learning how to be with the painful piece of it you feel trapped in right now
-
You will be able to recognize and relate differently to reactive patterns
-
Rather than falling into spiritual bypass, you will have the capacity to stay present and open to difficult inner experience while at the same time staying in contact with the MORE
-
You will have the capacity to listen inwardly in a way that allows something that feels fresh, brand-new and alive to emerge into areas of your life that have felt like dead-ends
-
You will be able to sit with another person in difficulty with a sense of being in the Wonder together, rather than with a sense of helping them fix their life
-
Instead of experiencing your own difficulties as signs of what’s wrong with you, you will be able to experience them as portals into deeper connection with something larger than a too-small sense of yourself
At its heart, this course is about learning to relate to yourself and to others in a way that allows fresh possibility, real change and - most of all - a deepened and direct connection to the Life that holds us all
